MONACO POP
Martin Gerstenberger & Alfred Stoll - 2024
Digital graffiti collage and Mural Art 4.0
Welcome to the urban energy of Munich: with "Monaco Pop", the city becomes a glowing graffiti collage. Abstract forms, figurative motifs and Munich silhouettes meet digital effects that bring movement into the image.
The work combines street art, painting and modern technology in an interactive installation. Only through the digital effect does the collage begin to pulse - and Munich suddenly appears colourful, fast and surprisingly different.
THE IDEA BEHIND THE WORK
"Monaco Pop" was created for the first anniversary of Magic Bavaria. The idea: to show Munich not as a classical city view, but as an urban collage of colour, form, movement and pop culture.
Martin Gerstenberger transformed an inconspicuous surface into a colourful street art work around Munich. Together with digital artist Alfred Stoll, the painting was digitally expanded. This brings graffiti, mural art and animation together in one work.
THE WORK IN THE EXHIBITION
At Magic Bavaria, "Monaco Pop" becomes interactive Mural Art 4.0. Through a tablet or smartphone, the image changes: colours flicker, forms start to move and the Munich city silhouette is digitally reimagined.
The installation shows how analogue graffiti art can be expanded within an exhibition space. Painting, space and digital effects interact - the mural becomes a moving image world.
BAVARIAN CONTEXT AND CULTURAL CLASSIFICATION
Munich is not only tradition, traditional dress and historic facades. The city is also urban, creative, loud, colourful and constantly in motion. "Monaco Pop" takes up exactly this view of the Bavarian capital.
The work shows Munich between landmarks and street art, city history and the digital present, Local Art and pop culture. This makes "Monaco Pop" a contemporary Bavarian image within the Magic Bavaria experience museum in Munich.
ABOUT MARTIN GERSTENBERGER & ALFRED STOLL
Martin Gerstenberger is an artist from Landshut. Through graffiti and street art, he found his way to painting on canvas, wood and wall surfaces. He describes his style as Neo-Urban-Pop-Folk-Art: colourful, urban, narrative and open to different materials. In "Monaco Pop", he translates Munich into a collage of street art elements, figures, forms and urban energy.
Alfred Stoll adds digital effects to the work and brings a second layer into the image. Together, the two artists combine painting and technology in an installation that fits perfectly with Magic Bavaria's exhibition concept: experiencing Bavaria from new perspectives.
